Outdoor Learning for Health and Knowledge

A five-day professional development course in Lithuania

Transform kindergarten and school grounds, parks and natural settings into stimulating spaces for learning, physical activity and wellbeing. The course combines theoretical models of Outdoor Education, observation of outdoor pedagogical practice, interactive workshops and experiential learning.

Preschool and primary school teachers, education specialists and educators interested in integrating nature-based learning into everyday practice.

How will you learn?

Through interactive workshops, observation, outdoor tasks, collaborative planning and guided reflection. Share experiences with Lithuanian educators and develop ideas for your own institution.

Day 1 · Introduction, philosophy and outdoor safety

Welcome and outdoor introductionsInteractive icebreaker games in an outdoor or park setting; sharing expectations and agreeing on group rules.

Philosophy and methodology of Outdoor EducationExplore the role of the natural environment in children’s cognitive, physical and emotional development.

Safety and risk assessmentPreparing outdoor spaces, assessing risks and planning activities with appropriate safety measures.

Day 2 · Kindergarten observation and practical workshop

Observation of outdoor teachingObserve real educational activities in a kindergarten yard, including sensory exploration, outdoor mathematics, nature activities and movement games.

Analysis with teachers and trainersDiscuss the methods used, group organisation, children’s responses and the educational goals achieved.

Practical modellingDevelop alternative scenarios and adaptations for schools and kindergartens with different spaces and resources.

Day 3 · Sensory awareness, wellbeing and outdoor STEM

Sensory learning in natureExplore barefoot walking, sensory pathways, contact with natural surfaces, outdoor movement and relaxation. Discuss age-appropriate adaptations, conditions and safety.

Outdoor STEM and land artUse natural materials for geometry, counting, measuring and scientific exploration, alongside creative activities and land art.

Daily reflection and discussionShare ideas for adapting STEM and art activities to different environments and age groups.

Day 4 · Team games, orienteering and social-emotional learning

Social-emotional learning outdoorsExplore activities that support empathy, confidence, environmental responsibility and ecological awareness.

Active games and cooperationExperience problem-solving games, team challenges and orienteering using natural landmarks and resources.

Preparation for the final projectReview guidelines for designing an individual outdoor lesson plan or educational project.

Day 5 · Action plans, presentations and certification

Action plan workshopWork collaboratively to develop a concrete plan for implementing outdoor learning at your own institution.

Participant presentationsPresent your outdoor lesson plans and receive constructive feedback from trainers and peers.

Reflection and course evaluationReflect on learning outcomes, evaluate the course and receive certificates after completing the agreed programme and tasks.

  • An organised kindergarten observation visit.
  • A certificate documenting participation and learning outcomes.
  • A cultural visit to historical landmarks in Jurbarkas.

Travel, accommodation, meals and local transport arrangements will be clarified in the final offer. Included services, additional costs and cancellation conditions will be provided in writing before registration.

We welcome enquiries from organisations planning Erasmus+ staff mobility. We provide a detailed programme, learning outcomes, schedule and participation terms for review by your sending organisation.

Before booking, your sending organisation should confirm that the course meets its project objectives and grant conditions.

Certificate in English

Participants completing the agreed programme and tasks receive a certificate stating the course dates, location, learning outcomes, provider and trainers.
